If you follow me on Facebook, you’ll see that I’ve been doing re-edits of photos and showing off old pictures that I’ve never shown publicly before, to give them a more updated look to match the style of editing I do now. It’s more practice than anything to get me ready for the upcoming wedding season.
To continue this series, I looked back at one of the first weddings I ever shot. My editing style hasn’t changed drastically but a few minor tweaks go a long way. Check out these pictures from Marla and Eugene’s wedding.
This is the beautiful Marla straight out of camera. Looking at the picture nothing needed to be done. I would have been happy giving it to them as is. But, I thought this picture of her warranted a classic look in black and white. Since I wanted it in black and white the below is the first time anyone has seen it in color. Like I said, I thing it’s great as is.
Below is the Black and White conversion I gave to Marla and Eugene. I think it gives the classic look I was going for but it’s not how I would edit it today. While I think it’s classic, it’s not as dramatic as I would like.
I wanted to see what it would look like in color since I’ve evolved my editing style. Below is the new edit in color. I think it’s just as beautiful as the first picture but the few tweaks added more drama and turned it into a beautiful portrait of a bride on her wedding day getting ready.
Once I saw it in color I wanted to give it an update B&W conversion. Below is the new B&W re-edit. This added the drama I was looking for. I think this is a classic picture of how beautiful Marla is and a great update to represent how I edit my pictures now. I’m happy with all four of the pictures and I would hang my hat on any one of them. When you are working with beautiful people you just can’t go wrong.
Here are the two B&W pictures side by side to get a better comparison.
Which of the four pictures do you like most?
